Pastor’s Note
As I write, there are some among our fellowship who are still without
electricity. What an interesting
month February turned out to be, but then again we know that God is sovereign.
It has been interesting to me that we have been in the Book of Daniel
during this history making time—threatening weather and the threat of war with
Iraq. May we learn as King
Nebuchadnezzar did, but more quickly, that God desires us to come to Him humbly
recognizing Him as the Sovereign Ruler of the universe. And
it is this Sovereign Ruler who wants to have a personal relationship with us
through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. This
is our only lasting (eternal) comfort and hope in uncertain and difficult times.
Look to the God of Heaven as did King Neb, and there find your bearings.
BTW, we will continue our Sunday morning study of Daniel this month.
Sunday Evening Study
On Sunday evening we will continue our study of Roman Catholicism.
This has been an interesting and challenging study as we compare the
teachings of the Catholic Church with the Scriptures.
Our study is not about bashing other’s sincerely held beliefs, but an
examination of those beliefs against the teaching of God’s Word.
We are looking at what the Catholic Church teaches by studying its own
church documents—The Catechism of The Catholic Church and The
Council of Trent. This study
will strengthen us in our understanding of what we believe, and in our ability
to defend it to others. Come and
join in the study.
Eldership Study Report
The deacons and I are close to completing our study of biblical eldership.
We will be presenting our findings in April and May.
This will be done in our Sunday morning and evening services.
This will provide an opportunity for you to study, share your insights,
and ask questions. After this the
deacons and I will put together a proposal for your consideration regarding
elder leadership in our congregation.
News To Announce
In our February Officers’
Meeting, we hired two very talented women for our music ministry.
Carol Lehman was hired as our new pianist.
Linda Tieman was hired as our new choir director.
You will be “hearing” more from them soon …
Carol and Linda will be great additions to Jean, Greg, and our worship
team. Each of these individuals
brings unique gifts and talents that will only enhance our worship of God.
Please pray for each of these individuals as they work together to
provide an atmosphere conducive to God-honoring worship.
Also, please be patient with us (leaders and musical staff) as we make
adjustments in our music ministry. Music
should be a means to enhance our worship of God, but never a means of division.
Again, by way of reminder, we follow a blended style of worship music.
This means that we sing traditional hymns of the faith, while singing
contemporary expressions of the faith as well.
Underlying this is a commitment to singing music that is theologically
sound. Of course, we all have our
preferences regarding music likes and dislikes, but our love for one another
provides the balance we need cf. Philippians 2:3-4.
Thank You
Thank you for your faithful service, prayers, and giving to the work of
Bigelow. God bless.
