Pastor’s Note:

I hope that our time in the study of biblical eldership has given you some food for thought.  The deacons and I are in the process of writing a statement reflecting the fruit our study for your consideration.  We are also in the process of reviewing our doctrinal statement.  We hope to develop a statement that reflects who we are as a church at this time in our history.  I will be teaching through the fruit of our labor on Sunday evenings beginning on June 1.

Our doctrinal review and study will produce a statement that reflects our non-denominational status, yet reflecting some of our distinctives.  The deacons and I will also begin to write positional papers on doctrinal/cultural issues as needed.  We will begin by developing positional papers on the following:  modes of baptism, views on the end of time, church membership, and the relationship of the believer to culture.  Please continue to pray for us as we continue our review and study of our constitution and bylaws.  We believe that this will strengthen our fellowship and give us continued direction for years to come.

Sermon Series
We will return to the Book of Daniel this month.  Originally, it was my intent to preach through our doctrinal statement during the summer months, but I have decided to teach through our statement as already mentioned.  So, that brings me back to our study of Daniel.  In case you forgot, we begin with chapter 7 and Daniel’s dream of four beasts.  As always, I appreciate your continued prayer on my behalf as I study through each biblical text I preach.  May God reveal Himself to us as we open His Word together.

Worship News
I hope that you have been encouraged in your worship each week by the Calls to Worship.  I appreciate Linda’s insights and leadership, our musicians and choir’s preparation in providing these calls.  The Calls to Worship are to help get our hearts and minds focused upon our reason for coming to church each Sunday—the worship of God Who alone is worthy of our adoration.

I hope that you have enjoyed learning to sing some of the Psalms, and some new songs.  I select the music for our worship service each week by, first, considering the theological content, second, the appropriateness of the tune and sing-ability, and, third, its corporate expression of our worship.  You will note that most of our songs focus upon the corporate nature of our worship—what we do as the body of Christ.  I also, as best I can, select music that fits with the theme of the text that I am preaching.

I have included an article on worship this month for your edification by Bob Kauflin.  I have enjoyed reading his articles, and I really enjoy many of the songs he writes.  Before long you will be singing a song or two of his.

Disciplehour Classes
Don’t forget the many age-appropriate Disciplehour classes for you and your family.  The adult parlor class will begin a study of Isaiah this month, and the basement adult class will be studying an overview of the New Testament.  There is room for you.

Upcoming Home Study
Keri and I plan to host a home study this summer.  We are either going to study the Attributes of God or the Doctrines of Grace.  The Attributes of God will cover the character/nature of God.  A right understanding of God is key to one’s understanding of self.  We will use a book by A.W. Pink as our text.  The Doctrines of Grace study will cover the key doctrines that were at the heart of the Reformation of the 16th century.  Either study will lead to growth in grace.  Watch for details.

Thank You
It has been a joy and challenge to be your pastor for sixteen years.  We have seen God meet each of our needs—physically, financially, and spiritually. And, we continue to see areas in which we need to grow individually, and as a church.  I thank you for your patience with me, and your love for me as God continues His work in me.  Also, thank you for your faithful prayer and financial support.
