Pastor’s Note:
It is exciting to see so many great things
happening at Bigelow! The
Elders are hard at work giving spiritual oversight, and direction to the
ministries of Bigelow. The
Deacons are hard at work developing, and carrying out the ministries of
Bigelow. I am thankful for
each of these men who serve as Elders and Deacons.
Please continue to keep them in your daily prayers.
Members’ Meeting
We had our first Members’ Meeting on January 18th.
It was good to see so many come, and we look forward to even more
of you coming to the next meeting on February 15th.
Please keep in mind, that these meetings are designed to
keep you informed of the various ministries, and the overall direction
of our fellowship. There
are important reports given by the Elders, Deacons, Treasurer, and
others. Time is provided
for questions about reports, ministry direction, and ministry decisions. We appreciate the input of our folks at these meetings, and
we ask that you come, and that you stay informed.
Please be sure to pick up the February 15th Members’
Meeting agenda on Sunday, February 13th.
Elders Report
At the January Members’ Meeting, the Elders reported on their
work of developing a philosophy of ministry.
This philosophy of ministry will guide them as they seek the
growth of each family unit (widows, widowers, single/divorced,
single/divorced parent with children, married, married with children).
Here is the first draft of the philosophy of ministry: “To build strong families through practical biblical
instruction with frequent evaluation to assure real progress.”
As you can see, the Elders desire to build strong
families, which are the foundation of a strong church.
The Elders will work on providing practical biblical tools to
help strengthen the family unit regardless of its configuration.
Also, the Elders will provide a means of accountability to help
assess spiritual growth. The
goal is to provide the heads of households with tools to help them shepherd
their family unit. The
content of this tool will be the weekly sermon.
From the sermon, questions will be developed for each day to aid
in further study and application of the truths learned.
The heads of households will be responsible to guide their family
unit in the study. The
Elders hope that this will results in young and old alike learning the
same truths from God’s Word, and sharing what they are learning with
one another. What a wonderful way to strengthen the family—family
worship! Soon a sample of
this will appear on the back of a sermon outline, so watch for it, and
please give it a try. More
on this later …
Sermon Series
We will return to the Song of Solomon this month.
We took time off from the Song of Solomon to consider a biblical
response to the tsunami, and a series of messages on the state of the
church. So, get back to
reading the Song at chapter 3.
